Moral judgements tend to short-circuit the critical thinking process. Once something has been declared “morally wrong,” we rarely revise our opinions. This makes sense from a practical standpoint. We don’t want a bunch of people sitting around puzzling about philosophy, seriously re-considering the idea that murder, rape, and theft are immoral. But if we care about critical thinking, we need to be extremely cautious about moral judgements. Too often, the moral judgement comes way too early—before the basic mechanics of cause and effect are sorted out—and the critical thinking process gets permanently short-circuited.
nonsense about the grooming. even if particular people groomed little kids in school, that wouldn't relate to any social group's rights advocacy/activism, or about the ideas and human experiences making up such a social activity. no kind of rape is becoming decriminalized. regarding justification-assigning value judgements to any phenomena-is ultimately arbitrary, however difficult that may be to accept. this isn't personal opinion, it's just an empirical truth that we do not know any transcendental, or "ultimate" ground, which would grant moral value judgements absolute objectivity/"real" status, independent of any anthropocentric mental framework.
i didn't claim anything about andrew tate, but from what little i heard, it's just a grift that hypes miserable people up to financially exploit them, who will latch onto anything in order to vent and blame and "other" certain groups of people. it's shitty, but this isn't rape being decriminalized, just internet assholes being internet assholes.
i'm not defending him at all lol, i agree with you about him. i don't believe in gender-specific chivalry. i'd prefer what i call being nice, regardless of gender, regardless of surreal expectations. just being nice without feeling the peer pressure of dead people who lived astonishingly different lives, not conforming thoughtlessly to arbitrary rites and deeds that often presuppose harmful sexist preconceptions that are accepted without reflection.
